Kilograms to Stones — The Imperial Weight System
The stone is a unit of weight used in Ireland and parts of the British Isles for measuring body weight. One stone equals exactly 14 pounds or approximately 6.350 kilograms. While most countries have fully adopted the metric system, the stone remains culturally embedded in some regions — you may see body weight expressed as, for example, "11 stone 4" rather than 71.7 kg or 158 lb.
The conversion from kilograms to stones requires two steps: first convert kg to total pounds (multiply by 2.204623), then divide by 14 to get whole stones with any remaining pounds as the fractional component.
Common references: 60 kg = 9 st 6 lb; 70 kg = 11 st 0 lb; 80 kg = 12 st 8 lb; 90 kg = 14 st 2 lb; 100 kg = 15 st 10 lb.
Formula
Convert kg to total pounds first: total lb = kg ÷ 0.453592. Then: stones = Math.floor(total lb ÷ 14), and lb remainder = total lb mod 14.
