Accessibility Statement
CalcWhizz is committed to making our calculators usable by everyone, including people who rely on assistive technologies. We target conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.
Conformance status
CalcWhizz is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA — most of the site meets the standard and we are actively resolving the remaining items noted below. This statement was last reviewed on 25 June 2026.
What we have implemented
- Semantic HTML5 landmarks (header, navigation, main, footer) and a logical heading order on every page
- A "Skip to main content" link as the first item on each page
- Every calculator field is programmatically labelled, and icon-only controls have accessible names
- Calculator results are exposed to screen readers through live regions, so answers are announced without moving your focus
- A visible keyboard focus indicator on all interactive elements, and full keyboard operability — including arrow-key navigation between tabs and Escape to close menus and dialogs
- The cookie-preferences dialog uses proper dialog semantics with focus trapping and focus return
- Text and essential interface elements meet the 4.5:1 contrast minimum (3:1 for large text and control boundaries)
- Layouts reflow to a single column and remain usable at 200% text size and 400% zoom
- Animations honour your operating system's "reduce motion" setting
- The page language is declared for correct screen-reader pronunciation, and there is no autoplaying audio or video
Known limitations
We are aware of, and working to resolve, the following:
- A few result charts and visual gauges convey information primarily visually; we provide text equivalents alongside them but are improving the full screen-reader descriptions.
- Some grouped inputs (for example hours / minutes / seconds fields) currently share a generic field name; we are adding more specific labels.
- A small number of calculators with bespoke styling have lower-contrast resting input borders; the keyboard focus indicator on those fields is unaffected.
Compatibility
CalcWhizz is designed to work with current versions of major browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari) and the screen readers commonly used with them (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver). It may still work with older technologies but is not optimised for them.
