About This Calculator

The Water Intake Calculator estimates your daily hydration needs based on body weight, age, activity level, and climate — the four primary factors that influence how much water your body requires each day.

How Daily Water Needs Are Calculated

The base calculation uses the widely cited guideline of 35 ml per kilogram of body weight per day for adults aged 30–55. This is then adjusted for:

  • Age: Older adults (55+) are at greater risk of dehydration as the thirst mechanism becomes less reliable.
  • Activity level: Exercise increases water loss through sweat. An additional 350–1,000 ml is added depending on training intensity.
  • Climate: Hot and humid environments significantly increase sweat loss, requiring an additional 250–750 ml per day.

Does Food Count Towards Water Intake?

Yes — approximately 20% of daily water intake comes from food, particularly fruits and vegetables. The calculator separates total intake from the amount you need to drink.

Signs of Dehydration

  • Dark yellow urine (aim for pale straw-coloured)
  • Headaches or difficulty concentrating
  • Dry mouth or lips
  • Feeling tired or dizzy
