How much does a cubic yard of mulch cover?

At a 7.6 cm (3-inch) depth, 1 cubic yard covers about 10 m² (108 ft²). At 5 cm (2 in), about 13 m² (160 ft²).

What's the difference between mulch and topsoil?

Topsoil is the upper layer of soil (loam mixed with organic matter) where plants grow. Mulch is a surface layer of bark, wood chips or compost laid on top to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
